Background
Dr. Allan Spong, Art Director at cgbiovisuals, studied Zoology at Cambridge University. At this time, he also worked as a freelance illustrator/cartoonist and was often published in BioEssays and Trends In Cell Biology. He then pursued his doctorate in the biology department at UC San Diego. Working in the lab of Dr. Suresh Subramani, he studied the molecular biology of peroxisome assembly and was awarded his Ph.D. in 1995. He was also the editorial cartoonist for the campus newspaper from 1992-1995. He then left science to work as an artist in the video games industry, and from 2002 to 2006 he was the art director for Kush Games, a company he co-founded in 2002 and which is now a subsidiary of Take Two Interactive. He is currently working at Zindagi Games in Southern California.
By combining the two worlds he has inhabited academically and professionally, he is able to create cutting-edge 3d graphics and clean professional artwork to help communicate the exciting research being done in the fields of medicine, molecular and cell biology. In the process, he hopes to illuminate some of the beauty and complexity that lies beyond what we can naturally perceive.
